Cobra™ Wrap
Genics CobraTM Wrap is a copper naphthenate treatment system that works to combat rot and insect infestation on wood pole assets at the ground line. Copper naphthenate is a substance made from the copper salt of naphthenate acid, a naturally occurring carboxylic acid. Combining copper naphthenate with P9 oil in our CobraTM Wrap system allows the system to deliver the product in a consistent and clean and safe manner. While copper, creosote, and sodium fluoride have all been historically used as remedial wood treatments, copper naphthenate is the only substance considered to be non-toxic. This active preservation ingredient has been proven to effectively eradicate fungal colonization and deter insect attack on wood pole assets ranging from railroad ties, bridge supports, utility poles, and more, while remaining clean and safe for the environment.
The Science Behind It
The Genics CobraTM Wrap is a patented bandage system that is wrapped around wood poles, pilings, and posts. It works to deliver the powerful copper naphthenate formula at high load rates consistently over time. The CobraTM Wrap system is also unique in that it preserves wood assets via its delivery of copper naphthenate directly where it is needed at and below the ground line and provides a durable barrier that shields the wood assets from further insect and fungal attacks.
The patented technology in the CobraTM Wrap system gives it the ability to consistently deliver the treatment products deeply and directly into wood assets. The system ensures that the insect-and fungal-fighting copper naphthenate migrates directly from the saturated fiber pads of the CobraTM Wrap directly into the wood, and not into the soil surrounding the asset. This feature is entirely unique to the CobraTM Wrap system, and no other treatment systems are able to control the spread of the treatment product into the environment surrounding the wood. This means that the maximum amount of treatment product is delivered into the wood asset, and that it is safer for the environment surrounding it.

Cobra™Wrap Gel
CobraTM Wrap Gel is a copper-boron paste treatment that has been developed to effectively preserve wood assets at or below the ground line. Laboratory testing has shown that this treatment system is effective in protecting against multiple species of fungus, including Neolentinus lepideus fungi (also known as “Train Wrecker” for its tendency to grow on railroad ties), Gloeophyllum trabeum fungi (a fungal species particularly known for degrading wood products), and Postia placenta fungi (one of the most common causes of wood rot).
The Science Behind It
CobraTM Wrap Gel is effective because it directly treats wood assets at and below the ground line. It is applied with one of two application methods, in either pouch or paste. First by excavating around the pole or piling, and placing a pouch of the Gel in the excavation area. It is important to note that when done properly, this excavation and installation of the CobraTM Wrap Gel will not affect the structural integrity of the wood asset. To apply the Gel in its wood preservation paste form, a brush with at least a one-metre handle should be used to apply the paste to the wood asset from 7.5 cm above the ground line to 45.5 cm below the groundline. The treated area is then covered with a polyethylene moisture barrier that is at least 2 mm thick.
